چکیده

Solution growth continues to be one of the most powerful techniques for the production of single crystals for basic and applied research. It is a versatile technique that allows for the growth of congruently and incongruently melting materials with equal ease. The primary requirement for growth is that there be an exposed primary solidification surface in the appropriate equilibrium alloy phase diagram. In this paper, we will review some of the systems that we have applied this technique to over the past several years. These range from binary and ternary intermetallic compounds such as RFe2 (R=Rare earth) and RT2Ge2 (T=Ni and Cu) to the refractory RNi2B2C family of magnetic superconductors to several families of quasicrystals. In each case, specific nuances of the relatively simple growth technique will be discussed. # 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. PACS: 81.10.Dn; 81.10.Fq; 61.44.+p; 74.70.Ad

GROWTH OF ZnS SINGLE CRYSTALS BY CVT TECHNIQUE UNDER DIFFERENT MASS TRANSPORT STABILITY CONDITIONS

Abstract: A thermodynamic model was used to find out the optimum temperature for the growth of ZnS single crystals in closed ampoules by chemical vapor transport technique. Based on this model 1002 °C was found to be optimum temperature for 2 mg/cm3 concentration of transporting agent (iodine). ZnS Crystals were grown in optimum (1002 °C) and non-optimum (902 °C and 1102 °C) temperatures. The c...

High-voltage electron microscope high-temperature in situ straining experiments to study dislocation dynamics in intermetallics and quasicrystals.

The dynamic behaviour of dislocations in several intermetallic alloys, studied by in situ straining experiments in a high-voltage electron microscope, is compared at room temperature and at high temperatures. In contrast to room temperature, the dislocations move viscously at high temperatures, which is explained by diffusion processes in the dislocation cores. In quasicrystals, the viscous dis...

Rhombellanic Crystals and Quasicrystals

Design of some crystal and quasicrystal networks, based on rhombellane tiling,is presented. [1,1,1]Propellane,is a synthesized organic molecule; its hydrogenated form, the bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane,may be represented by the complete bipartite graph K2,3 which is the smallest rhombellane. Topology of translational and radial structures involving rhombellanes is described in terms of vertex symbol, c...

Scattering Study of Conductive-Dielectric Nano/Micro-Grained Single Crystals Based on Poly(ethylene glycol), Poly(3-hexyl thiophene) and Polyaniline

Two types of rod-coil block copolymers including poly(3-hexylthiophene)-block-poly(ethylene glycol) (P3HT-b-PEG) and PEG-block-polyaniline (PANI) were synthesized using Grignard metathesis polymerization, Suzuki coupling, and interfacial polymerization. Afterward, two types of single crystals were grown by self-seeding methodology to investigate the coily and rod blocks in grafted brushes and o...

Tunneling States and Defects in Quasicrystals

Quasicrystals present a long range order but, contrary to crystals, they don’t have any periodic order. Hence, they appear as intermediate materials between simple crystals and glasses. It is known that the low temperature (T<1K) properties of amorphous materials differ from those of simple crystals[1]. In the phenomenological tunneling states (TS’s) model, these specific properties are explain...
